Opinions in our house differ on whether the Parmesan cheese adds to or detracts from the flavor of this salad. Consider it optional.

- 1 ripe pear
- 2 c arugula
- 2 T pine nuts
- 1/4 c shredded Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 balsamic vinaigrette
Roast pine nuts in a dry pan for 4 minutes at medium heat, shaking frequently.
Tear arugula fine.
Peel and dice pear.
Toss all ingredients together and serve directly.
